DIY Natural Fabric Softener

DIY Natural Fabric Softener

Keen to make fabric softener yourself? It’s an excellent low-tox and zero-waste laundry option.

You’ll save money, plastic waste and the waterways all at the same time. With basic ingredients that are easily sourced, you can’t go wrong with this one. It works a treat too.

You’ll need

1-litre glass bottle with lid
Optional funnel
White vinegar
Natural salt
Distilled or boiled and cooled water
Essential oils

Recipe

3 cups white vinegar
1 cup distilled water
1 teaspoon fine salt
Essential oils of choice

Method

Combine vinegar, water and salt and shake to combine. Keep essential oils by the washer and add a few drops with the fabric softener to each wash.

How to use

Add a splash (say 1/4 cup) of this to each wash, straight into the fabric softener compartment and then add in a few drops of your favourite scent. I use Wintergreen, Lavender, Tea Tree (for antibacterial qualities) and then anything else I like the smell of. Sandalwood and Geranium are two of my favourites.
